Schedule Your Lawn Sprinkler Winterization Before It Freezes

The time to winterize your lawn sprinkler system is before it freezes. A sprinkler system that freezes causes damages to your sprinkler system that can become very costly.

You enjoy the convenience of your sprinkler system and you expect it to work for you year after year to irrigate your lawn during the warm summer months and generally your sprinkler system will continue to perform well for you if you take care of it and do the proper maintenance in a timely manner. One of the most important maintenance issues you will face is proper winterization or blowout of your sprinkler system.

During a winter blowout of your sprinkler system a properly trained and qualified sprinkler technician will use an air compressor to help evacuate your sprinkler system of all water remaining in the sprinkler lines and in the main bell housing of your backflow preventer. This water must be removed to prevent it from freezing during the cold winter months in the metro Detroit area of southeast Michigan. If that water is left in the system, as it freezes it expands and will crack your sprinkler lines or pipes and freeze within the backflow preventer. Although there are parts within the backflow preventer designed to break first in the event of freezing that are relatively inexpensive compared to backflow preventer replacement, this is still an expense that you will want to avoid and is easily prevented simply by timely blowout of your sprinkler system.

We mentioned that a qualified sprinkler technician will use an air compressor to evacuate water from your sprinkler system. This leads some people to believe that anyone with an air compressor can perform a sprinkler winterization. That is an incorrect assumption. The air flow must be at the right pressure along with the correct CPM displacement, otherwise it will crack pipes or joints if it is too high. On the other hand, too low air pressure will not remove all remaining water from the sprinkler system and you will face cracked or damaged sprinkler parts during the winter. Both instances are costly and needless repairs in the spring when you start up your sprinkler system again.

We have qualified sprinkler system technicians that can and will correctly blow out and winterize your sprinkler system and we warranty that your sprinkler system is shut down properly.
